William Edward Briggs Priestley

Sir William Edward Briggs Priestley (12 April 1859 – 25 March 1932)[1] was an Liberal politician from the West Riding of Yorkshire. He was Member of Parliament (MP) for Bradford East from 1906 to 1918.

He was the son of Briggs Priestley (1821–1907), a Thornton-born millhand who became a major mill-owner in Bradford, Mayor of Bradford, and MP for neighbouring Pudsey. His younger bother Arthur was MP for Grantham.[2]

William Priestley first stood for Parliament at the 1900 general election, when he failed to unseat Bradford East's Conservative MP. He won the seat in 1906,[3] and held it until his defeat at the 1918 general election.[4]
